Today the boy and I decided, that our happiness in Mexico City depends largely on being able to eat comfortably and often. So, we booked a tour with the blogger I’ve been following, and decided to do the Taco Tour. We had a great time and tried lots of different tacos: Tacos Al Pastor, Tacos Guisados, Taco Arabes, Carnitas and Cochinita Pibil tacos and fresh tortillas. We had an awesome time. Because the boy’s foot is still in a cast, I was pleased to learn that the amount of walking was minimal. We had a great time learning the history and cultural nuances of Mexico. Our guide, Natalia, was a professional tour guide, and was wonderful with the boy! She explained each taco we tried and was really engaging with him. We even visited some “fondas” (small casual restaurants with homestyle food) and even ran into Lesley who was lunching with another guide–always a great sign when the foodie and the guide are eating at the restaurant you’re at!
We had an awesome time. The boy took the lesson to heart that when at the carnitas stand you need to specifically ask for carnitas–and if you don’t you might end up eating guts, stomaches, or other undesirable things. My favorite taco was the Taco de Guisado –the stewed taco made in the big cazuela and stewed!
If you come to visit, we promise to take you on a tour of our favorite tacos!
